A new chapter on Main Street

Dr. Doug Litchfield Dentistry is becoming Huntsville Smiles Dentistry. Here’s what stays the same, what’s new and what it means for you.

On a wooden dock, an older man hands a worn wooden canoe paddle, carved with initials and the year 1976, to a teenager reaching out for it, with a red canoe and a forested lake behind them.

If you’ve been heading upstairs from Pharmasave for your check-ups for years, your next visit will feel very familiar. Same door, same phone number, same rooms you know. What’s changing is the name on the sign: Dr. Doug Litchfield Dentistry is becoming Huntsville Smiles Dentistry.

A change like this can raise questions, so here is what it means in plain terms: what stays put, what’s new and whether there’s anything you need to do. (Short answer: almost certainly not.)

A paddle handed on

In cottage country, a good paddle gets passed down. It changes hands, but it still knows the water. That’s how we think about this transition. Dr. Litchfield graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1987 and has practised here in Huntsville since 2000. The practice has carried his name for more than 25 years, and the care behind that name isn’t going anywhere.

Huntsville Smiles Dentistry is a name that belongs to the town and to the families who walk up Main Street to see us. It gives the practice room to grow as a new dentist joins the team, while Dr. Litchfield stays on through the transition so the handover happens gradually, side by side.

What stays the same

  • The same location. We’re still at Suite 203, 29 Main St E, upstairs from Pharmasave. There’s an elevator and wheelchair access.
  • The same phone number. You can still reach us at (705) 788-9229.
  • Your records stay here, safely. Your dental history, X-rays and notes remain with the practice, stored securely as they always have been. You don’t need to request a transfer or sign anything to keep them here.
  • Dr. Litchfield himself. He is staying on through the transition, continuing to see patients and working alongside our new dentist.

Same street, same number, same care. A new name on the door.

What’s new

  • The name. You’ll start to see Huntsville Smiles Dentistry on our signage and paperwork as the change rolls out over the coming weeks.
  • A new dentist. A new dentist is joining the practice and will work alongside Dr. Litchfield during the transition. We look forward to introducing them properly here in Field Notes.
  • A new website. You’re reading it. Along with practical articles like this one, you can now send us an appointment request online at any hour. We’ll follow up to confirm a time that works for you.

Thank you, Dr. Litchfield

More than 25 years of practice in one small town adds up to a great many check-ups, fillings and patient explanations, and a great many neighbours looked after. Dr. Litchfield has built a practice on calm, careful work and on knowing his patients as people. We’re grateful for everything he has put into it, and glad he’s staying on to help guide what comes next.

If you’d like to thank him yourself, the next time you’re in for a visit is a good moment to do it.

What this means for you

  • If you already have an appointment booked, you don’t need to rebook.
  • Call the same number, (705) 788-9229, and come to the same place, upstairs from Pharmasave at 29 Main St E.
  • Your records are already here. There’s nothing to transfer and no forms to fill out.
  • You’ll still see Dr. Litchfield through the transition.
  • If it’s easier, you can now request an appointment online through our booking request page.
  • Long-time patients can find more detail on our page for Dr. Litchfield’s patients.

Thank you for your trust over the years. We’re looking forward to the next chapter on Main Street, together.
