Emergency dentistry
If you have a toothache, a broken tooth or a mouth injury, call us at (705) 788-9229. We see dental emergencies as promptly as we can, and you don’t need to be a regular patient.

We’re open Monday to Thursday, 8 am to 5 pm, at Suite 203, 29 Main St E, upstairs from Pharmasave, with an elevator and wheelchair access. Call as early in the day as you can. We’ll ask a few questions, talk you through first aid and try to fit you in quickly.
Visiting Muskoka? Cottagers, campers, skiers and summer visitors are welcome, so call us if something goes wrong while you’re up for the weekend or the season. Afterwards, you can follow up with your own dentist at home, and we can send them your records if you’d like.

After an emergency
Go to the emergency department at Huntsville District Memorial Hospital, or call 911, if you have facial swelling that affects your breathing or swallowing, bleeding you can’t control, or an injury from an accident such as a fall or a car crash, especially if you may have hit your head or hurt your jaw. These need hospital care first. We can look after your teeth afterwards.
Outside our hours, if the problem can wait, use the first-aid tips on this page and call us as soon as we open. For free health advice from a registered nurse at any hour, call Health811 by dialling 811.
Questions people ask
What should I do if a tooth is knocked out?
Act quickly. Pick the tooth up by the crown (the white part), not the root. If it’s dirty, rinse it gently in milk or cool water for a few seconds. Don’t scrub it or wrap it in tissue. If you can, push it gently back into its socket and bite on a clean cloth to hold it there. If you can’t, keep it in a small container of milk, not water. Call us and try to be seen within an hour. Don’t put a baby tooth back in, since that can harm the adult tooth underneath. Call us instead.
I broke or chipped a tooth. What should I do?
Rinse your mouth with warm water and save any pieces in a little milk. If your lip or face is swelling, hold a cold pack on the outside. Cover a sharp edge with sugar-free gum or dental wax. Call us to be seen. A small chip can often wait a day or two, but a large break, or a tooth that hurts, should be seen sooner.
My filling or crown fell out. Is that an emergency?
It’s usually not urgent, but call us soon. Keep the crown safe and bring it with you. Until then, chew on the other side and avoid sticky or hard foods. Temporary dental cement from a pharmacy can cover the spot or hold a crown in place for a short time. Never use household glue.
My face or gum is swollen. What should I do?
Swelling can mean an infection, such as an abscess. Call us the same day. Rinse with warm salt water, hold a cold pack on your face, and take an over-the-counter pain reliever as directed if it’s safe for you. Don’t use heat, and don’t put aspirin on your gum, since it can burn. If swelling spreads toward your eye or neck, or makes it hard to breathe or swallow, go to the hospital emergency department or call 911.
How can I ease a toothache until I’m seen?
Rinse with warm water and floss gently to remove trapped food. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever as directed if it’s safe for you, and hold a cold pack on your cheek. Pain that goes away doesn’t always mean the problem is gone, so call us either way.
Come sit a while.
New patients, returning patients and visitors to Muskoka are all welcome. Tell us what’s going on and we’ll find a time that suits you.
